Being born into poverty puts one at a disadvantage in life. Sickness makes matters worse for the patient as well as the family that is already struggling with making ends meet. Having one sick family member can burden the entire family emotionally, financially and mentally. There are hundreds of government schemes for poverty alleviation run by the Central as well as the State governments, but neither have they eradicated poverty nor have they uplifted all the poor. On the contrary, diseases are increasing among the impoverished population.
Cancer Treatment
The projected cancer burden in India for 2021 was 26.7 million DALYsAMI and expected to increase to 29.8 million in 2025. The highest burden was in the north (2408 DALYsAMI per 100,000) and northeastern (2177 DALYsAMI per 100,000) regions of the country and higher among males. More than 40% of the total cancer burden was contributed by the seven leading cancer sites — lung (10.6%), breast (10.5%), oesophagus (5.8%), mouth (5.7%), stomach (5.2%), liver (4.6%), and cervix uteri (4.3%).
Less than 20% of all Indians are covered under health insurance. Over 80% of Indians are still uninsured, some because they are unaware that they can benefit from government health insurance.
The Government of India passed this act in 1994 to broaden the concept of organ donation and stop commercial dealing in organs, especially kidney. It is now possible to not only donate ones’s eye, but also other vital organs like heart, lung, liver, pancreas and kidneys.
Kidney Treatment
We understand the challenges that patients and their families are faced with, and hence, apply the wisdom of each person’s experience to provide invaluable medical guidance and emotional support. We truly care and are passionate about making a difference to fellow kidney patients’ lives. It’s the power of changing people’s despair to hope through shared experiences of success and failure that makes our work so satisfying.
Patients from all income levels, especially, lower and middle-income groups, face financial constraints in managing their treatment costs. We offer some monetary relief for them to tide over the initial hesitancy in starting treatment. This enables them to overcome their fear and get into a survival mode. Our focus is to encourage people to make their own choice of medical treatment, while we stand by to offer any assurance needed by them.
Why we are working on cancer?
The loss of our Sister to cancer made us to take a tough resolve to make cancer never. The Sunrise Medical Foundation took birth on 2015 in this 8 years that followed its inception great strides have been made in achieving the aim. Cancer patients have become victors by the hundreds, in thousands cancer has been detected early and millions learnt the basics about cancer and measures to prevent it from happening. Individuals, foundations, corporate and people at large have given us their strength and encouragement for our endeavors and we long for more of it in the future to see a cancer free world.
